I lived in Japan for 5 years in my 20s on a Japanese temple.  Though not budhist, I really enjoyed my time with the family that I lived with and submersed myself in their culture.  One thing I brought back with me was my love of Matcha.  Matcha is the powdered leaves of green tea and is super healthy for you. With more antioxidants than regular green tea, this smoothie will help improve immunity function and reduce inflammation. You will also receive some of the benefits of caffeine without the jitters. 

Matcha green tea boosts your metabolism and burns fat!  A recent study suggests that it may increase the burning of calories by 4x and can improve your endurance by up to 24%.

When you include green in your diet – kale, spinach, spirulina – you are cleansing and detoxing your system.  Green equals Chlorophyll, a powerful detoxifier.

Matcha set



1    cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk, kefir, coconut or skimmed milk

      (I use 1/2 coconut & 1/2 kefir)

1    tsp matcha powder

1    cup of orange juice

1    banana

1/2 tsp coconut extract

1/2 mix kale (remove spine) and spinich (about a handful)

1/2 cup of ice cubes

BLEND all ingredients in a high powered blender or Majic bullet.  Blend for about a minute and serve

If you use protein powders in your morning shakes, a plain or vanilla shot in this smoothie would work and really give you a complete meal
